Project Narrative
Brothers Marketplace is a next generation concept, small format, gourmet grocer. In collaboration with Roche Bros, the design team worked to develop the third location for the Brothers Marketplace portfolio. The scope of this 12,000 sf project included a complete store design, with an emphasis on brand identity, customer journey, space planning, interior/exterior design, fixture design, and environmental graphic design. Brothers Marketplace strives to reinvent the idea of a corner grocery with unique product offerings that focus on fresh and locally crafted artisan foods. Their dedication to offering a curated collection of prepared meals and fresh local offerings sets them apart from larger chain retailers. The store environment is designed to highlight unique attributes of the history and heritage of the neighborhood and delivers on the brand promise: “Eat. Drink. Be Local.” Brothers Marketplace pays homage to the unique characteristics of each community in which they reside. A key feature of the design is offering amenities to urban customers that provide a one-stop grocery shopping and dining experience. The environmental graphics throughout the space reflect the community and tell a story that is unique to the industrial history of Waltham. The store features a hand-painted mural that illustrates local, iconic architecture, layered with nods to the modern-day vibe of the neighborhood. The mural content was designed by the project design team and implemented by a local mural artist.
