Project Narrative
This project began as a kitchen renovation and grew quickly to include an addition and new elevated terrace. The existing brick house had several haphazard porches and enclosures on the rear of the house, blocking views of the hills and complicating internal circulation. By removing the existing wood deck and opening up the rear brick wall, we were able to extend the kitchen and create a new breakfast area surrounded by glass. This spatial extension also allowed us to connect to the existing family room to improve internal circulation. Finally, we added a new terrace above the existing garage to provide a natural terminus to the family room. In the end, this renovation and addition both re-imagined internal spaces and reconnected the house to its site.
