Project Narrative
One of the few facilities chosen to host a new training center for Robotics & Advanced Manufacturing Industry Certifications (RAMTEC), Great Oaks Career Center developed the program on its Scarlet Oaks campus with the goal of increasing the visibility of the program to help advance the manufacturing industry. Located in a peripheral wing and not visible from the main drive, the design team developed a design solution that communicated the story of the new RAMTEC program, transformed the overall identify of the facility, and maximized visibility. The large scale wall element serves as a ‘billboard’ for the program and is comprised of a series of custom perforated metal panels that were fabricated with the same cutting edge manufacturing processes and high-tech automated fabrication techniques being taught inside the facility. The design team utilized parametric design to develop nine unique panel patterns backlit by blue LED strips and oriented in response to how visitors view and engage with the surface. Toward the main parking, the panels are oriented vertically to connect the ground to the sky, while on the opposite side, adjacent to the entry ramp, they are oriented horizontally to reinforce the direction of movement. As the primary entry to the RAMTEC facility that all visitors pass through, the wall serves to challenge and inspire and educate. The design creates an iconic element that is easily recognizable and serves to advance the manufacturing industry.
